Snoring is the result of obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. The irregular airflow is caused by a blockage and the resulting sound is termed as snoring. When the free flow of air pass through the passages at the back of the mouth and when the nose is obstructed, snoring occurs. This area is the collapsible part of the airway flow where the tongue and the upper throat meet the soft palate & uvula. Sound will come when these structures strike each other and vibrate during breathing. Sometimes people with large tonsils and adenoids snore. Deformities of the nose can also cause snoring.
Researchers on snoring contradict many facts, but still the following is considered as one of the several causes. They are:
Weakness in the throat causing to close during sleep,
Dispositional jaw, often caused by tension in muscles,
Fat accumulation in and around the throat &
Obstructers in the nasal passage
Snoring gives knock-on effects such as daytime drowsiness, irritability, lack of focus and decreased libido. Researchers besides gave a correlation between loud snoring and risk of heart attack. The most worrying thing for the snorers is the social embarrassment arising from complaints when they sleep. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) can be coherent with the symptom of snoring.
